Abstract
The presentation focuses on insights provided by the results of three empirical research. From a longitudinal study (Crocetti, Klimstra, Keijsers, Hale, Meeus, 2009) conducted with more than 1300 Dutch adolescents followed for a period of 5 years showed that those who experience high levels of anxiety have many critical issues in the development of identity.
Those guys brood on their choices without being able to gain commitment. A second study (Crocetti, Hale, Fermani, Raaijmakers, Meeus, 2009) which was attended by more than 4,000 adolescents, half Italian and half Dutch, has revealed that many young Italians show more symptoms of anxiety (generalized anxiety, social anxiety , panic, anxiety, school, separation anxiety) than their Dutch peers.
Based on the results of these studies it was assumed that Italian adolescents have more difficulty forming an identity matures. A third study (Crocetti, Schwartz, Fermani, Meeus, in press) confirmed this hypothesis, highlighting a number of problems typical of Italian children. We discuss the implications of these for the cycle of personal life.
